MISSION
STATEMENT
The mission of the South Poway Residents Association is to protect and preserve a high quality of life for all Poway Residents, with our primary focus on South Poway.
We plan to
accomplish this by:
Update on the status of the SPRA group (May 2010): Many changes have occurred within our membership. Karen Knecht, our secretary, has sold her home and is moving out of Poway. Bill and Elda Parmley have asked to step down as membership chair and treasurer. If you recall, we had written term limits into our bylaws, and on that note, we are all "termed out" anyway. We have been very proud to have established SPRA at a time when South Poway was being totally ignored by the city council. Our goal was to get people involved in their city government, and we feel that we have accomplished that goal to a large extent. Recognition needs to go to you all for joining in and making the following possible: ...Bringing the policy of affordable housing segregation in South Poway to the public ...Supporting home ownership for Poway Royal Mobile home park residents ...Advocating for the guardrail along Metate Lane to protect PRMOA residents ...Pushed for improvements on Oak Knoll Road ...Pushed for reducing the train depot cost from 3.7 million to $700,000 ...Supporting SPRA members in city council elections ...Sponsoring the first televised city council candidate forum ...Supporting Aubrey Park neighbors in their quest for quality of life issues ...Supporting the return of Mina de Oro Road as a public road ...Jumpstarting the anti-Walmart expansion plan ...Contributing many letters to the editor in newspapers and directly to the city council on Poway issues ...Wrote and submitted a proposal for a new park on Oak Knoll Road to the city council and to the Park and Rec committee ...Participated in joint SPRA /GVCA roundtable discussions started by City Manager, Rod Gould These are just some of our major accomplishments. Although some of these issues are ongoing, SPRA is currently on hiatus. If anyone is interested in becoming an officer for 2010, please respond to Email address no longer valid. We will still assist SPRA in any way we can especially in the coming election year. Thank you for your support. We wish you the best in your efforts to stay involved in your local government. Your outgoing SPRA officers: Connie Messina, Karen Knecht, Elda and Bill Parmley Reminder - All Poway Wal-Mart EIR concerns must be turned in to the City Clerk by July 20th, According to a July 11th union-tribune editorial, the 16 law-abiding tax-paying citizens of Poway who voiced concerns about the walmart expansion are all "ANGRY ANTI-CAPITALISTIC NIMBY'S" , basically saying (and I'm saying this in my own words) that we should worship walmart as the savior of mankind and how DARE anybody try to stand in their way. -- Webmaster Click WalMart button for Anti-Big-Box links |
